GRAND RAPIDS, MI, UNITED STATES, October 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Almost Lotería is a vital tool for anyone interested in learning Latino history, and it is now available for order at TeachCultura.com! The board game offers a fun twist on classic lotería by incorporating (optional) elements of trivia and team challenges that help players to have an interactive experience with historical and cultural concepts. Concepts include the Mexican Revolution, the Zapatistas, the Chicano Movement, as well as arts-based cards including Chicano Park, Los Tigres del Norte, and Chavela Vargas--54 in total, all accompanied with original illustrations by Chicago-based artist, Kayla Macedo. While Almost Lotería can be played by anyone, teachers find it especially useful. I am releasing the game after years of playing versions of it with my high school, elementary and college students. To facilitate deeper learning, an Educators Digital Expansion Pack is also available at TeachCultura.com, which includes an expansive list of 150+ hyperlinked podcasts, books, articles and other teaching resources, as well as facilitation strategies for using the game effectively in community and classroom settings.
Game instructions are printed in Spanish and English, and multiple Indigenous languages are also interwoven into the game through concepts like Iwígara (Rarámuri) and Tata Juriata (P'uhrépecha). At its core, this game constellates Xicano diaspora by exploring the relationship between figures, concepts, and practices from ancient Mesoamerica to modern Indigenous and Latino art and activism.
Contents: 25 player boards, 58 playing cards, bilingual English/Spanish instructions manuals, and a concise study guide. The game is appropriate for ages 5+. No prior knowledge or experience is required in order to play.
I am happy to make myself available for presentations, interviews, consultations, and game nights. Please direct email inquiries to ramossa@gvsu.edu.
