Ambassador Greer Issues Statement Following the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity
MILWAUKEE – Today, Ambassador Jamieson Greer chaired the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity, which reached consensus on a comprehensive framework for joint action (“the Milwaukee Framework”). Ambassador Greer highlighted the effective actions taken by the Trump Administration to address global steel excess capacity and its impacts, including on U.S. manufacturers and workers, and invited like-minded partners to take similar steps to more fully address excess capacity and the global market distortions it causes.
“Under President Trump, the U.S. steel industry is undergoing a renaissance on the strength of tariffs, trade deals, favorable tax treatment, improved energy policy, and the American entrepreneurial spirit,” said Ambassador Greer. “If like-minded partners adopt similar policies, they can hold accountable those countries that are contributing to the problem of global overcapacity in steel. The United States looks forward to working with other members of the GFSEC in implementing the Milwaukee Framework, taking effective actions to address excess capacity and its impacts, and restoring a global level playing field for our workers and producers.”
